Set your goals, make them happen

There's no better time than the New Year to reflect on what you want to achieve in the 12 months ahead.

And while you might be thinking about that new gym membership or cutting back on the beers (or both), it’s also a moment to rethink your wardrobe and ensure you have what you need to look your best.

Here are five New Year style goals to get you started.

Refresh the basics

Now is the time to ensure you have the key elements you need, to work as the base for any look.

Investing in a selection of clean, crisp, white shirts are a great place to start.

Don’t be afraid to play around with slimmer fits or stretch materials to ensure your shirting fits your body shape – especially once that New Year gym membership kicks in.

Push yourself

It’s often easier to play it safe. But with a New Year just around the corner, now is the time to push the boat out a little more and have some fun with your personal style.

It doesn’t mean throwing out your wardrobe and starting from scratch, but with workplaces becoming more casual, there are more ways to express yourself than with a classic suit.

Try chinos and loose the tie, or go for tailoring in shades of light grey or blue, which will add a less formal touch to your daily look.

Learn from the best

As with mentors in life and your career, it pays to have style icons, too.

When looking for ways to develop your style, people and brands you associate with are a good place to start, follow them on your go-to social channel to see what trends they are focusing. One thing you’ll notice is that those with style know the importance of fit, start which your body type and know what will enhance your shape.

Still not sure where to start, chat to our Van Heusen associates in store or check out our fit guide, here.

Stay focused

Goal setting is still a great way to measure your own success.

Whether in life, business or even in style, being clear about the things that you want to achieve will not only allow you to keep your eye on the prize and track of your progress, but will provide motivation for you to keep going, especially when things get tough.

Write them down, keep them somewhere close and make them happen.

Sustainability is key

As with all industries, sustainability is a major focus of the fashion world right now, and it pays to educate yourself, so you can make sure your choices aren’t hurting the planet.

For 2020, we’re planning some exciting changes. Watch this space to find out more.
